The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation

The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation (TPCHF) was formed in 1986 with the primary goal of funding critical research at The Prince Charles Hospital. Today TPCHF has become a major research funding body focusing on the areas of heart, lung, dementia, arthritis among others. We’re proud to support The Prince Charles Hospital which is one of the world’s leading heart and lung hospitals.

The Common Good

An initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, The Common Good is a team of businesses and individuals who are joining forces with researches to tackle disease that face us all. By directly supporting researchers, we can channel our resources into the medical conditions we care about. The Common Good is here to prove that everyday people can make things happen.

Team: Mayall's Pace

The greatest Hero I never knew was the organ donor who saved my life.

Mayall’s Pace is back at it again, proudly doubling team numbers this year and challenging ourselves to 100kms. We are taking part in the bike ride for the Cycle of Giving, to raise funds for organs transplant research and awareness for organ donation to improve quality of life and life expectancy post transplant.

Our team is made up of Steve Mayall, big brother, weekly donator to this great cause, travelling all the way from Melbourne to participant. Joining Steve is his family friend Rodney Clout from the Gold Coast. Next up we have work friends, Derek’s training buddies, pushing the pedals, Rob Taylor and Bez Martin.  Next up we have the Cycling duo of Tony and Lisa Fuchs also work friends. Then a cycling champion and champion person Brian Machin, this is literally a Sunday morning ride for him. Then we have two from the Land of the long white Cloud Uncle Graeme Burnand, travelling all the way from Auckland to participant in his first Cycle of Giving event. Finally we have Kev Mayall, younger brother, also riding for the first time, he will not be shaken all the way from Christchurch.

We may not be the strongest, we may not be the fastest but we will be damned if we are not trying our hardest! Derek received a double lung transplant in January 2014, this will be his 4th year participating in the Cycle of Giving. We ride & fundraise to add days to Derek’s life & to thank the Prince Charles Hospital for their continued incredible care of Derek.

Research is vital to continue to save lives and to increase the life expectancy post transplant. Survival rate at the Prince Charles Hospital since 1996 confirms 1 year survival at 90%, 66% at 5 years, 55% at 8 years and 51% at 10 years. Survival rates drops to less than 20% at 15 years. We need your help. Your kind donation will help us to extend this survival rate, ultimately prolonging Derek’s life.

Thank you for your support. This means the world to us!

Love Derek, Kym, Olivia and Emily xo
